A new carbon dioxide (CO2) terminal is to be built at the Port of Immingham, the UK’s largest port, enabling the large-scale import and export of liquid bulk gas to and from the region.
To be developed by Harbour Energy and Associated British Ports (ABP), the terminal will act as a hub connecting CO2 emissions generated from UK industry to Harbour Energy’s Viking CCS high-capacity CO2 storage sites in the Southern North Sea.
Previously known as V Net Zero, the Viking CCS network represents a joint effort between several UK energy partners to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by ten million tonnes in-line with 2030 goals.
ABP’s addition to the network will see the organisation investing in new infrastructure including a jetty, which is planned to be used for import and export handling of liquid bulk products such as CO2 cargoes and the handling of green ammonia.
