A project which aims to store up to 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year in 2025/2026, and potentially up to eight million tonnes of CO2 per year by 2030, has received official safety approvals from DNV.
Project Greensand is the first in the world to demonstrate that CO2 can be transported across national borders and stored offshore to mitigate climate change.
It aims to safely and permanently store the captured CO2 in the INEOS-operated Siri area of the North Sea. The storage potential, if achieved, will contribute significantly to Denmark’s 2030 overall emissions reduction target.
