Climeworks has built its first commercial CO2 capture plant, with a deal secured to sell the captured gas to a customer.
The plant will be operational by mid-2016 and annually capture 900 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere, enhancing the growth of vegetables und lettuce in a nearby greenhouse of Gebrüder Meier Primanatura AG by up to 20%.
The main goal of the project, with development and building costs of €3 to 4m, is to industrialise Climeworks’ unique Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology and continuously operate an industrial scale plant that captures CO2 from ambient air.
