A refinery project promising to produce around five million gallons of power-to-liquid (PtL) sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) has received planning approval from the local borough council.
Led by Willis Sustainable Fuels Ltd (WSF), the project is planned to be built at Teesworks in Tees Valley, England, after recently receiving a £4.7m ($6m) grant from the UK Department for Transport Advanced Fuels Fund competition.
The approval marks a ‘pivotal step’ in the firm’s project, said Austin Willis, CEO of parent company Willis Lease Finance Corporation (WLFC), who added, “We’re poised to dive into action, collaborating closely with our partners at Teesworks to bolster the UK’s SAF pipeline.”
WSF’s Carbonshift PtL process uses power-to-liquid technology to convert carbon dioxide and green hydrogen into SAF.
