Speciality materials and chemical company Celanese Corporation has started running a carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) project at its Clear Lake, Texas, site to support the production of 130,000 metric tonnes of low-carbon methanol per year.
Part of a Fairway Methanol joint venture with Japan’s Mitsui & Co. the project is expected to capture 180,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) industrial emissions.
Celanese is leveraging CCU to offer low-carbon options across its acetyl chain and engineered materials products to help customers meet the growing demand for sustainable and circular solutions.
