Industrial and medical gases specialist Carburos Metálicos is set to open Tarragona’s first public hydrogen production plant following its acquisition of a >10,000m2 plot of land in the region.
Announced yesterday (10th March), the strategically placed development will take advantage of its position next to ‘important communication routes’ – with the Port of Tarragona and the Mediterranean corridor being considered key to promoting transport of passengers and goods by means of hydrogen.
Operations at the plant are due to begin in 2023 and the hydrogen produced will be utilised by Carburos Metálicos’ own fleet of distribution vehicles – in line with its recent ‘Hydrogen Route’ demonstrations.
The route, which began last year, was designed to showcase the company’s hydrogen innovations and will continue this year.
