Decarbonisation solutions firm Carbon Clean has mounted its first equipment on the structural steel of the first carbon capture module at what will be Europe’s largest commercial-scale e-methanol facility.
Once operational, Carbon Clean’s technology will be capable of capturing 70,000 tonnes of biogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) to be used as a feedstock in the production of 55,000 tonnes of e-methanol per year at Ørsted’s FlagshipONE facility in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden.
Set to open in 2025, the facility will supply the e-methanol to the shipping industry, which accounts for around 3% of global carbon emissions.
