UK carbon reduction specialist Carbon Capture Scotland has announced tht it will partner with whisky distiller Whyte & Mackay as part of a project to capture biogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) from the Invergordon distillery.
Through its Project Nexus, Capture Capture Scotland will work with Whyte & Mackay to remove biogenic CO2 from fermentation – an element of whisky production.
The captured CO2 will then be used in local industry, with the excess permanently stored in geological.
A UK-wide carbon capture, utilisation and removal initiative led by Carbon Capture Scotland, Project Nexus aims to remove 1m tonnes of biogenic CO2 per year by 2030 – equivalent to removing 700,000 cars from the roads.
