The “world’s first” marine-based demonstration test of carbon capture is set to take place on Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha’s coal carrier as part of a two-year project titled Carbon Capture of the Ocean (CC-Ocean).
Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group, is working in cooperation with Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha and Nippon Kaiji Kyoki, on test operations and measurements for a small-scale ship-based carbon capture demonstration plant.
The project is being conducted with support from the Maritime Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure Transport and Tourism (MLIT), as part of its assistance project for research and development of technological advancements in marine resource development.
