Plans for a new carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) project in British Columbia have been unveiled to decarbonise the operations of one of Canada’s leading mining companies.
Teck Resources on today (28th June) unveiled plans for the pilot at its Trail Operations metallurgical complex that could potentially see the capture of over 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year.
Set be operational in the second half of 2023; the pilot plant will capture CO2 from the acid plant flue gas at Trail Operations at a rate of three tonnes per day and evaluate options for the utilisation and/or storage of the captured CO2.
Don Lindsay, President and CEO of Teck, said, “This carbon capture pilot is an important step towards our knowledge building for the application of CCUS as an emissions reduction solution, as we work to evaluate pathways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our operations and achieve our Net Zero goal.”
