Cambridge Sensotec has designed the Rapidox SF6 6100 Pump Back gas analyser, in order to detect levels of sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) in electrical equipment.
SF6 is predominantly used as an arc and cooling medium in medium and high voltage electrical equipment as an electrical insulator. When partial arcing or failure occurs within electrical equipment, it can create decomposition products such as sulphur dioxide and hydrogen fluoride.
The device draws a sample of SF6 from electrical equipment and analyses it in accordance with the relevant test configurations. It can then pump the gas back into the electrical equipment, which is stored internally for proper disposal at a later date.
