The California Energy Commission (CEC) yesterday approved an $8m grant to develop a high-capacity hydrogen (H2) fuelling station to service and promote the expansion of zero-emission fuel cell electric class 8 drayage trucks at the Port of Long Beach.
Promotion of fuel cell electric class 8 drayage trucks – which transport freight from a port to a warehouse or other location – can address the use of older vehicles with little or no emission controls that operate at the port.
Promoting the use of zero-emission vehicles will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution at the nation’s second busiest container port. The station will source H2 from 100% renewable biogas.
