UK-based carbon dioxide (CO2) removal company C-Capture has announced the start of Europe’s first carbon capture trial on a mainstream flat glass manufacturing plant in St. Helens, UK.
Forming part of the company’s ‘XLR8 CCS (carbon capture and storage)’ project, the trial makes up part of a demonstration that a low-cost carbon capture solution is a reality for hard-to-abate industries in the race to Net Zero.
XLR8 CCS will showcase the ability of C-Capture’s carbon capture technology to remove CO2 from the flue gas emissions of three carbon-intensive industries.
In addition to decarbonising flat glass manufacturing at project partner’s Pilkington UK’s site, carbon capture trials are set to follow in the cement and energy from waste industries.
