The burgeoning microbrewery sector continues to be a growth area for distributors, but certain geographical areas are seeing a slowdown of microbreweries going in.
An appetite for craft beer, new flavors, originality and a desire to buy the local brew is still there as microbreweries and brewpubs continue to enjoy the fastest growth in the US beer market.
In 2018, craft beer sales increased 7% to $27.6bn, which was more than 24% of the $114.2bn US beer market, according to Colorado-based Brewers Association (BA), a not-for-profit trade group dedicated to small and independent US brewers. From 2017 to 2018, there was a +15% jump in microbreweries with the total number of craft breweries now above 7,600, and rising.
