Fire fighters were called to the BOC factory in Derby after residents were woken by two loud blasts at 9pm GMT yesterday.
The blasts were caused by after a fire broke out in cylinders at the factory in Raynesway. Fire crews from Kingsway and Ascot Drive, evacuated the area and closed the local roads.
BOC has made this statement,
“We confirm that there was a fire at Derby last night which we believe was caused by an incident with acetylene cylinders. BOC's site emergency plan went into action right way and the site was evacuated. There are no injuries to any personnel.
The fire brigade attended the scene soon after 21.00pm and the fire was brought quickly under control. They were on site for a couple of hours and left the site around 23.00. Damage is limited to the area of the fire and there is no other effect on the site.
