BOC, the UK’s largest industrial gases business, and Taylor Construction Plant Ltd (TCP) have teamed up to create the world’s first commercial low energy LED hydrogen (H2) fuel cell powered lighting tower.
The Ecolite-TH2 is a full scale lighting tower powered by BOC’s HYMERA® fuel cell technology which also incorporates Linde’s GENIE® lightweight H2 cylinder.
With no internal combustion engine, the tower provides zero carbon site emissions and noise-free lighting, providing a favourable alternative to conventional diesel-powered units. It is designed to take two GENIE H2 cylinders, which operate as battery hybrids, to generate a longer runtime.
Costain, one the UK’s leading engineering solution providers, has been using the Ecolite-TH2 lighting tower whist working on the Great Eastern Main Line as part of Network Rail’s railway upgrade plan.
