The CHIPS for America team at the US Department of Commerce have selected five leaders to serve on the selection committee that will choose board members to form a non-profit entity that the department anticipates will serve as the operator of the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC).
Described as a cornerstone of the Chips and Science Act’s research and development (R&D) programme, the NSTC is critical to the long-term success of the American semiconductor industry and our national and economic security goals.
In August (2022), President Biden signed the $52bn Chips and Science Act into law to strengthen American manufacturing and place the US as a frontrunner in the semiconductor market, competing with the likes of China.
Later, in March (2023), the Biden-Harris Administration launched the first CHIPS for America funding opportunity for manufacturing incentives to begin to restore the US semiconductor market.
