Chris Street, the British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA) President, has been appointed Luxfer Gas Cylinders’ Global Director of Sales for Aluminium Cylinders.
The move sees Street’s career come full circle, as he was a customer of Luxfer when he owned his own specialty gas business, Scientific and Technical Gases (StG), nearly 20 years ago.
“I have always had a deep emotional connection to Luxfer. When StG was in a tough spot, Luxfer supported us through a critical supply shortage, and that’s something I’ll never forget,” he said.
“It cemented my admiration for the company and means that this role, to me, is the perfect blend of head and heart.”
Street said joining Luxfer feels like a homecoming. “My ambition is to strengthen our core aluminium cylinder business, explore new markets, and ensure the company remains the benchmark for excellence in the industry.”
In his role as BCGA President, Street has been an advocate for bringing fresh and diverse talent into the sector.
“The BCGA’s Future Leaders Program is all about encouraging a broader range of voices in the industry, particularly within STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths] fields. We need new ideas, new perspectives, and a truly inclusive workforce to drive the sector forward,” he said.
His advice to others pursuing a career in the industry was to embrace change and keep pursuing new challenges.
“It is often the things you don’t do that you regret. The world is full of opportunities if you remain open and willing to adapt,” he said.
The BCGA annual conference will be held on 15 May at the Marriott Hotel & Country Club, Worsley Park, Manchester.
