Energy provider Banpu Public Company Limited has achieved a final investment decision on two US-based carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) projects, making it the first Thai company to do so.
Both interlinked, the two projects represent a combined estimated investment of up to $58m.
The first CCUS project, the Barnett Zero project, is believed to be one of the first permanent commercial carbon dioxide (CO2) disposal and sequestration projects in the US. Once fully operational, the project will separate CO2 from most of Banpu’s EnLink-gathered natural gas production.
In July 2022, Banpu started drilling at the site and hopes to achieve the first injection in December this year.
