Swiss renewable energy producer Axpo has signed a ten-year deal to charter a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessel – an agreement that will see Europe’s first deployment of a sustainable technology for continuous ship-to-truck operations.
Axpo will work alongside Italy’s Gas and Heat SpA and the San Giorgio del Porto shipyard, two cryogenic storage and vessel conversion companies that will take the lead on construction of the vessel in the San Giorgio’s shipyard in Piombino, Italy.
In addition to providing ship-to-ship bunkering services, the vessel will also harness Gas and Heat’s flexible multi-truck bunkering skid mounted onboard to enable the bunkering of several trucks simultaneously.
This will mark the first time the company’s proprietary bunkering technology has been used in Europe.
