Energy and chemicals company Aramco will work alongside NEOM’s energy and water company ENOWA to construct and establish a ‘first-of-its-kind’ synthetic e-fuel demonstration plant in the urban area of Neom.
Having signed a joint development agreement, the partners aim to showcase the technical feasibility and commercial potential of e-fuels by producing 35 barrels per day of low-carbon synthetic gasoline from renewable-based hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide (CO2).
To be located in ENOWA’s Hydrogen Innovation and Development Center (HIDC), the facility will produce 12 tonnes of synthetic CO2 using technologies from ThussenKrupp Uhde before being converted into low-carbon gasoline using ExxonMobil’s Fluidised-Bed Methanol-to-Gasoline (MtG) technology.
