Apollo to study UK carbon capture and shipping hub

Apollo has been selected to conduct three studies on the Severnside Carbon Capture & Shipping Hub (7CO2) in Avonmouth, Bristol.

7CO2 proposes a carbon capture hub at Avonmouth Dock which will link by pipeline and rail to regional large emitters of carbon dioxide (CO2), allowing them to introduce carbon capture at their facilities for onward shipping from Avonmouth to long term geological storage.

Apollo is collaborating with key partners including Suez, Viridor, SSE, EDF, Network Rail, National Grid, GB Rail Freight, VTG, Bristol Port, Petrofac, Ameresco, Bristol City Council, Western Gateway, and Hydrogen South West.

Viridor, which is already processing a million tonnes of waste a year at Runcorn, aims to connect its plant at Avonmouth to Cardiff, and in time, to Ardley in Oxfordshire by rail.
