Safety is paramount when handling cryogenic materials. There are several potential risks, including cold burns, so those in the market must cover all eventualities.
One notable entry into the space is the cryogenic industry’s first patent-pending vacuum jacketed safety hose for liquid hydrogen and helium.
Developed by Pennsylvania-based LifeGuard Technologies, the safety hose features insulated transfer lines that can handle extremely low temperatures of -252.9°C, or 487.22°F. The vacuum technology with super insulation and the patented and patent-pending LifeGuard Safety Shutoff System precisely provides the insulation value and safety required to transport liquid hydrogen.
Adding an extra element of safety, the hoses have a built-in safety system that uses compression spring device with two non-return valves installed within each fitting, which separate under a controlled condition. This causes the internal valves to engage and the pipeline to remain intact with flow stopped on both ends of the hose, preventing product loss if there’s an emergency separation.
