American Welding & Gas opens fill plant in Kentucky; strengthening regional growth

American Welding & Gas (AWG) has opened a fill plant in Georgetown, Kentucky, to produce and package compressed and cryogenic gases for customers in the region and surrounding states.

The 20,000 sq ft plant is located next to the company’s existing store and warehouse location and will produce 50,000 compressed gas cylinders per month. Once fully operational, around 45 AWG employees will be based out of the new facility.

Specifically, the location will support customers in Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Kentucky.

Jason Krieger, CEO of AWG, said he is proud of the team that built the facility. He paid individual gratitude to Kentucky’s Governor Beshear, Judge/Executive Covington, Mayor Jenkins, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s Cabinet for Economic Development.

He also thanked AWG’s general contractor, Gray Ohio Valley, and its gas equipment manufacturer, Cryogenic Technology Resources (CTR). He added, “Working as a team, AWG, Gray and CTR completed the project on schedule and on budget.”

The new plant is at 400 Triport Road, Georgetown, Kentucky. Scott County Judge/Executive Joe Pat Covington and Georgetown Mayor Burney Jenkins presided over AWG’s ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Kentucky’s Governor Andy Beshear, said, “Our historic economic momentum wouldn’t be possible without companies like AWG buying into Kentucky and what we have to offer. I am happy to welcome this exciting next step for AWG and am looking forward to its continued success here in Georgetown.”

Spearheading future growth, earlier this year AWG also announced its acquisition of Speed Industrial Gas, expanding its reach to Texan cities: San Antonio, Taylor, and Pleasanton.

Across its three locations, Speed supplies a range of industrial gases, including acetylene, argon, carbon dioxide, helium, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen, in addition to welding gas mixture and bulk gases.

AWG is celebrating 75 years of business in 2024. Founded in 1949, the family-owned firm operates over 100 retail locations and 22 gas fill plants located in 22 states – plus the newly added fill plant.

The company distributes products, including bulk quantities of cryogenic gases and individual packaged gas cylinders through its fleet of over 250 trucks and trailers.
