Norway-based Alma Clean Power (Alma) has announced a major scale-up of its direct ammonia fuel cell system which converts ammonia directly to electricity without upstream cracking.
The company first unveiled the system one year ago when it revealed the successful testing of the world’s first 6 kilowatt (kW) direct ammonia fuel cell system.
According to the company, testing for the latest 100 kW system is taking place at the Energy House in Stord, Norway, where the technology is being assessed for its use in maritime applications.
Commenting on the news, Bernt Skeie, CEO at Alma, called the milestone a ‘significant step forward’ in developing clean, sustainable energy solutions for the maritime industry.
