Green energy and industry developer Aker Horizons (Aker) has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with German gas group VNG to supply up to 200,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year from Narvik, Norway.
To be procured from Aker’s large-scale green industrial hub under development in Narvik, the green ammonia will be distributed to VNG’s customers in the form of either ammonia or hydrogen.
Signed in Berlin during a visit by Norway’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Fisheries Jan Christian Vestre to German Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck, the agreement aims to foster new green industrial development in addition to strengthening energy security in Europe.
Calling the Narvik project an ‘important milestone’ in the development of industrial-scale production of green hydrogen and green ammonia in Europe, Kristian Rokke, CEO of Aker, emphasised the importance of forming partnerships.
