Norwegian carbon reduction company Aker Carbon Capture (Aker) will work alongside Limeco to decarbonise waste-to-energy (WtE) after being awarded a feasibility study by the Swiss energy firm.
Aker’s ‘Just Catch’ technology will capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from the waste incineration process at a new plant to be built in Dietikon, in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland, before being liquefied for transport by truck or train.
Since Limeco’s WtE plant is a greenfield project to produce district heating, heat integration between the incineration plant and the carbon capture plant can be used to maximise the district heat production.
Commenting on the project, Jon Christopher Knudsen, CCO at Aker, said, “We are excited to collaborate with Limeco in their decarbonisation efforts. Decarbonising the WtE industry is crucial to achieving Switzerland’s 2050 Net Zero target.”
