Airgas today announced the release of its latest Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPS) monitoring chart.
The chart provides details on Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) registry numbers, corresponding HAP compounds and available Airgas calibration gases for accurately monitoring emissions of those compounds.
Airgas’ Director of Utilities, Bob Davies, commented, “This chart will be valuable for regulators and owners of HAPS-emitting facilities because it will help them easily determine if calibration gas can be produced for measuring a specific pollutant.”
Davies continued, “This allows for much easier measurement of the actual pollutant and avoids using a surrogate chemical for calibration. It saves many hours of aggravation and countless dollars wasted on establishing and complying with the difficult Title V emissions permits.”
The chart release coincides with a United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Information Collection Request (ICR) from more than 800 Part 75 utilities. Davis commented, “The information gathered by the EPA will help develop national emissions standards for hazardous air pollutants and will provide details needed for states to write their own Title V permits.”
“The new Airgas HAPS chart helps permit writers and owners of emissions sources determine what pollutants can and cannot be measured so they can realistically determine what can be included in a Title V emissions patent.”
