A proof-of-concept hydrogen ecosystem was presented by Air Products, Sasol and Toyota at the Smarter Mobility Africa Summit held in Johannesburg yesterday (2nd October).
The presentation involved South Africa’s first on-road demonstration of a hydrogen-fuelled Toyota Mirai. Using fuel supplied by industrial gas company Sasol and dispensing technology provided by Air Products, the fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) took several VIPs as passengers around a test track.
The demonstration was intended to showcase the partners’ hydrogen mobility ecosystem, a sustainable alternative that can decarbonise the hard-to-abate and hard-to-electrify heavy duty transport sector.
