Air Products names Miquel Lope as Vice-President to lead Northern Europe strategy

Air Products has appointed Miquel Lope as Vice-President and General Manager for the Northern Continent.

In his new role, Lope will drive the industrial gas giant’s strategic initiatives and growth in Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.

Ivo Bols, President of Europe and Africa at Air Products, notes that Lope has an extensive background in the industrial gas market and a track record of delivering ambitious targets.

“His drive for safety and operational excellence will be instrumental in guiding Air Products’ continued success and expansion in the Northern Continent.”

Lope has been with Air Products for over 27 years and most recently held the role of vice-president and general manager for Southern Europe.

He succeeds Kurt Lefevere who has been appointed as President of Air Products in Asia.

Commenting on his new role, Lope said, “I am excited and motivated to take on this new role and the responsibilities that come along with it. New challenges, new priorities and a high-performing team that are already doing so much to help generate a cleaner future are some of the points that led me to accept this position.”

Air Products has several projects and partnerships either in development or operational in the northern continent. As an example, earlier this year, the company signed a 15-year agreement with TotalEnergies for the annual supply in Europe of 70,000 tonnes of green hydrogen starting in 2030.

Under terms of the agreement, Air Products will deliver green hydrogen from its global supply network to TotalEnergies’ Northern European refineries’ doorstep. The hydrogen will avoid around 700,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

Air Products is committing more than $15bn to large-scale energy transition projects and launching several large low carbon hydrogen projects in the world, making it a leading and reliable supplier.

As part of this, the company is also developing what it believes to be Europe’s largest blue hydrogen plant in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The plant will be an expansion on an existing site and will be operational in 2026.
