A newly announced project to develop a network of over 100 hydrogen stations for heavy duty vehicles in Europe will help facilitate access to hydrogen and accelerate the development of its use for goods transportation across the continent.
To be undertaken by partners Air Liquide and TotalEnergies, the project aims to deploy the stations on major European roads in Benelux and Germany, contributing to the decarbonisation of road transportation in Europe.
According to the European Environment Agency (EEA), road transport greenhouse gas emissions from the EU accounted for 77% of all EU transport GHG’s in 2020.
By continuing to develop hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, it is estimated that, by 2050, hydrogen could provide around 20% of the overall transport fuel mix.
