Air Liquide will invest €50m to develop a new hydrogen packaging and delivery supply chain for refuelling systems in the Normandy industrial basin, France, utilising hydrogen produced by its 200MW Normand’Hy electrolyser.
The industrial gas giant today (15th Nov) announced its plans in support of the growing number of hydrogen vehicles along the Seine Axis, from Le Havre to the Ile-de-France.
In support of taxis, light utility vehicles, buses, and trucks, Air Liquide will rely on long-term partnerships, including a signed deal with HysetCo.
Hydrogen supplied as part of the effort will account for 25% of the Normand’Hy electrolyser’s total capacity. This is equivalent to the consumption of 500 hydrogen trucks or 10,000 light-duty vehicles.
Emilie Mouren-Renouard, Member of Air Liquide’s Executive Committee, supervising the Group’s operations in Europe, said the investment constitutes a concrete and decisive step forward in favour of low-carbon transportation.
“With this new project, the group confirms its commitment to fostering ecosystems that contribute to the transition towards a low-carbon society.”
The remaining 75% of Normand’Hy’s capacity will be supplied to renewable and low-carbon hydrogen to customers in the Normandy industrial basin, including TotalEnergies.

Normand’Hy is believed to be the largest PEM electrolyser ever built. Based on proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis technology, it will integrate equipment produced in the framework of the joint venture between Air Liquide and Siemens Energy.
