Air Canada invests in direct air capture technology

Flag carrier airline Air Canada has invested $6.75m in the clean-energy company Carbon Engineering to support the advancement of its direct air capture (DAC) technology that pulls carbon dioxide (CO2) out the air at an industrial scale.

The investment loan was made following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two firms last year.

Carbon Engineering’s DAC technology uses large fans to pull in air and then, through a series of processes, extracts the CO2 while returning the other air components to the environment.
