Hydrogen power generation specialist AFC Energy (AFC) has announced that its ammonia-to-hydrogen technology has successfully achieved 99.99% hydrogen from single reactor testing.
Having been independently tested by the UK’s National Physical Laboratory (NPL), the results represent a key milestone in the development of AFC’s modular ammonia cracker technology, according to the company.
AFC’s ammonia cracker is designed to ‘crack’ ammonia into its constituent molecules, hydrogen and nitrogen.
The hydrogen can then be used as a fuel in fuel cells or combustion with the nitrogen emitted to atmosphere in a process that the company states is carbon-free.
