The AES Corporation, one of the world’s leading energy companies, has been granted permission to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility and 88-mile pipeline near Baltimore, Maryland.
Despite renewed attempts by environmental groups to halt proceedings, AES has had its application accepted by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
The five-member panel voted 4-1 to approve the request from the Virginia based company, but added a total of 169 conditions in order that environmental and safety concerns be addressed.
According to Dow Jones, the terminal and pipeline would bring 1.5 billion cubic feet a day of natural gas to the northeastern US.
