Croatian Ministry of Environmental Protection provides go-ahead to Adria LNG project.
The facility is to be located on the Island of Krk, a lucrative region in the North Adriatic due to several factors; from adequate sea depth to an accessible location in relation to main suppliers in the Middle East and North Africa.
Managing Director of Adria LNG d.o.o., Michael Mertl, stated, “The positive Decision on the Environmental Acceptability of the Adria LNG project is a significant milestone for the further implementation of the project. Thanks to all the support from the Croatian Government, the project has advanced significantly over the last year.”
The assessment occurred over little more than a year ago, in which all interested public parties participated actively. This agreement constitutes the first investment in Croatia in which the Ministry published the integral text of the Environmental Impact Study on its website. Meanwhile, the campaign itself offered a useful tool to hear and address public scepticism and concerns.
Between the first and final phases of the project capacity is expected to rise from 10 billion m³ to 15 billion m³ of natural gas. The terminal will act as a hub supplying Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Austria and Hungary.
