In a move that underscores the deepening collaboration between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Japan, ADNOC Gas plc, a prominent player in integrated gas processing, has unveiled a significant five-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply accord with Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX), an energy enterprise based in Japan.
The deal — worth between $450 million (AED 1.65 billion) to $550 million (AED 2 billion) — sets the stage for a substantial boost in the existing bilateral relations between the UAE and Japan.
Commenting on the agreement, Ahmed Alebri, the Chief Executive Officer of ADNOC Gas, “The significance of Japan as a pivotal energy partner for the UAE cannot be overstated. This LNG supply agreement with JAPEX marks another milestone in fortifying our ties. It amplifies ADNOC Gas’ stature as a premier global purveyor of LNG and magnifies the company’s burgeoning global footprint, particularly in the Asian LNG sector.”
Natural gas is emerging as a pivotal bridging fuel in the transition towards a lower-carbon energy landscape, a facet further reinforced by its relatively lower carbon emissions in comparison with other fossil fuels. Beyond its role as a transitional energy source, natural gas assumes a pivotal role in driving industrial value chains as a crucial raw material.
