Acme Cryogenics has extended its portfolio of cryogenics-handling products with the launch of its new XL bore vacuum-jacketed piping (VJP) to maintain cryogenic temperatures.
Additionally, the new VJP helps to prevent leaks and transfer the full array of high-volume cryogenics, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquid hydrogen (LH2), liquid oxygen (LOX), carbon dioxide (CO2) and helium.
Bennett Allred, Director of Technical Sales and Installation Services for Acme Cryogenics, notes that the handling and transporting cryogenic liquids require plenty of care as they must be kept at extremely cold temperatures.
“They must not be allowed to return to their gaseous state, and they must be shipped in volumes large enough to satisfy the needs of a space-launch operation or fuel a fleet of transport trucks, ships, barges, or planes.”
To achieve this, Acme VJP has a “pipe within a pipe” design, including an inner pipe that carries the cryogenic liquid and an outer pipe that seals the annular space between the pipes.
The inner pipe, which is wrapped with thing sheets of multi-layer insulation that is coated with a metallic material, usually aluminium, to block radiative heat transfer.
Allred added, “The design and operation of the XL Bore Vacuum-Jacketed Piping helps maintain the integrity of the user’s cryogenics-handling processes while meeting the highest industry standards for safety, reliability, and cost-effective performance.”
Acme Cryogenics is part of OPW Clean Energy and Dover. In December 2021, Dover announced the acquisition of both RegO and Acme for $295m. At the time, it was announced that both businesses would become part of OPW Global, an operating unit within Dover’s Fuelling Solutions segment.
Later, in November 2022, RegO and Acme announced that they were to adopt a joint OPW Clean Energy Solutions branding strategy and logo to reflect what they called a common mission to manufacture engineered solutions for shared markets.
