Classification society ABS has granted initial approve to Value Maritime’s carbon capture system onboard seagoing ships.
The approval extends to the carbon capture model of the company’s Filtree System, which cleans sulphur and particulate matter emissions from vessels’ exhaust in addition to removing carbon for storage in a removable container.
According to Value Maritime, Filtree can remove up to 40% of a ship’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, with the potential for that figure to be increased to beyond 90% in the future.
“Carbon capture onboard is a critical technology in the industry’s push for Net Zero,” said John McDonald, COO of ABS.
