A 30MW (megawatt) green hydrogen production plant is to be built at the site of Jocheon-eup in Jeju City in South Korea.
The news follows an announcement by the provincial government on Monday (31st July) that it was selected by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to take the lead on technology development and a demonstration project for clean hydrogen production.
The production base will comprise of one facility capable of generating 10 megawatts (MW) via alkaline electrolysis, while another will produce 5MW using polymer electrolyte membrane electrolysis technology.
Both methods involve the use of renewable energy-generated electricity to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.
