After the shortages of recent years and dynamics that reached a crescendo in 2013, a situation of both stability and over-supply returned to the helium business in 2014.
Helium still made the headlines this year with the start-up of operations at the Qatar II plant in Ras Laffan, but the global gases business in 2014 was typified by ongoing project activity, maximising efficiencies, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and the increasing rise of new clean energies.
As expected, LNG distribution and equipment continued to make waves in the industrial gas business in 2014 – and will surely continue to do so both in 2015 and beyond. Steps forward in the hydrogen economy also caught attention this year and as you will see over parts 1-4 of this feature in the coming days, developments are expected to step up further still in the next 12 months.
