David Burdick, Division Manager at Reliant Gases, thanks for taking 10 minutes out with gasworld. What have we interrupted in your schedule today?
I’m working with the transportation side of Reliant Gases to help solve the logistics puzzle of moving carbon dioxide (CO2) to areas that we don’t normally provide. With the severe CO2 shortage in various parts of the country, all suppliers (and contract transportation companies) are experiencing unprecedented logistics issues and the transportation fleet is operating at maximum capacity right now.
What can tell us about the CO2 shortage?
While we experienced a short lull in the supply shortage, it has grown dramatically worse in the past couple months. The east and the west coasts are experiencing the worst of the shortages at the moment, but the industry is mobilizing to supply those areas from other sources. The CO2 is available, it’s just in parts of the country that require extensive transportation assets, and additional cost, to get it to the affected areas. Being that many of our plants are supplied from geologic sources, our customers have not experienced supply interruptions or been negatively impacted. In addition, we’ve been able to assist Reliant customers whose plants in other parts of the country are experiencing supply interruptions.
