Amidst all of the headlines surrounding both Covid-19 and the role of oxygen in the treatment of patients, gasworld reported in April how a Louisiana-based hospital had been using Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to treat coronavirus patients.
The Opelousas General Health System said that the treatment could be an effective way to treat coronavirus patients suffering from severe respiratory distress. It was one of the first instances of HBOT, a distinct form of supplemental oxygen, described as helping in the fight against Covid. So what is HBOT and how has it been used in that Louisiana setting?
