“Europe was the origin of industry, it was in Europe where ‘industry in its modern sense started. Europe has been a pioneer in industrial innovation and has helped improve the way people around the world produce, consume and do business.”
Those are the words of Eduardo Gil Elejoste, President of Nippon Gases Europe, as he reflects on the continued significance – and buoyancy – of the European market and Nippon Gases’ role within it.
It’s a particularly apt observation. Europe was indeed at the heart of the industrial revolution of the 18th and 19th century, as the transformation to new (steam) power sources, newly mechanised manufacturing processes and whole new ways of life and industry emerged. This revolution dramatically changed the way we live and work, and the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) is once again fundamentally shifting the way we live, work and relate to one another today. Europe is at the forefront of this wave of digitisation, as well as wider movements around sustainability, clean fuels and circular economies.
