In the globalized food industry, specialty high-purity gases and gas mixes play a crucial role in fresh-food preservation, to extend the shelf-life of or otherwise improve a huge range of fresh produce. You might presume that the technologies and techniques that apply in this market are well-understood and standard – but in fact it is a dynamic space characterized by a lot of change.
In many respects that’s a reflection of the way that food products and packaging are always changing, as producers aim to keep developing attractive new products to grab the attention and whet the appetite of consumers.
It sounds a challenging space, and it is. But for Chinmoy Bose, who for 16 years now has overseen specialty gases at Barnes Specialty Gases, this ever-changing landscape in food and beverage gases presents a steady stream of fresh opportunities.
