Priority one: real-time asset tracking
For distributors with tens of thousands of cylinders and other assets that need to be monitored and maintained, the introduction of item-level tracking using secure RFID tags and barcodes has been revolutionary. In nearly all cases, the information is now instantly shared back into the enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. And for any distributors that haven’t gone as far with this as they can, it should now be the first priority. If all the assets are being regularly checked and geolocated, perhaps with the gas contents being monitored via telemetry to boot, that is the road to seriously smarter working and efficiency – as well as fewer losses, fewer mistakes, less fraud, and happier, more looked-after customers.
