SEMICON West is the flagship annual event for the global microelectronics industry. Founded in 1971, the show will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year, in San Francisco, CA, on July 13–15. The premier event for the display of new products and technologies for microelectronics design and manufacturing, this year’s show includes technologies across the microelectronics supply chain.
SEMICON West showcases the latest materials, processes, equipment, technologies, and services that enable the design, fabrication, packaging, and testing of today’s most sophisticated microelectronics. The Show also spotlights emerging markets and technologies born from the microelectronics industry, including micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), photovoltaics (PV), flexible electronics and displays, nano-electronics, solid state lighting (LEDs), and related technologies.
Forecasts project the global LED market will grow to around $14 billion in 2013 as countries around the world, including China, Japan, and the United States, invest in energyefficient lighting technologies. Increasingly used in lighting applications for flat panel display televisions and as a replacement for incandescent and fluorescent lighting, LEDs promise to significantly reduce energy consumption and contribute to efforts combating global climate change.
The latest technologies and trends for LED manufacturing constitute a major focus area of Extreme Electronics, the “show-within-theshow” at SEMICON West focusing on technologies and opportunities beyond semiconductors. LED exhibitors and presentations at Extreme Electronics will highlight the latest market trends and solutions for increasing manufacturing productivity and reducing costs.
