As a business founded and based on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), the industrial gas industry has an important stake in providing educational opportunities in these subject areas.

It has been our industry’s scientists, engineers, and innovators that have continued to expand the reach of gases by introducing applications in so many market segments. Unfortunately, research by US Department of Education indicates that today, students pursuing expertise in STEM fields is not enough to keep the pipeline of skilled workers flowing into science and math related businesses (www.ed.gov/stem). This trend points to the potential broadening of the problem the industrial gas industry already faces with a shortage of trained welders.
