When Bronwyn Eyre, Minister of Energy and Resources for the Saskatchewan Government, spoke on the eve of gasworld’s Helium Super Summit 2021, she told delates that the province has the fifth-largest helium resource in the world, with significant underground reserves showcasing attractive geology, and a goal to surpass 150 producing helium wells.
With these ambitions, it is hoped that Saskatchewan will be a leader in the helium market, and the province will benefit from factors such as 15 new helium purification and liquefaction facilities, 500 new permanent jobs and annual helium exports worth more than $500m – as well as the ability to support the unpredictable helium market.
Spearheading its goals, the Government of Saskatchewan in March (2022) announced a new partnership with the Saskatchewan Research Council to accelerate the development of helium processing and liquefaction hubs, with support of a $140,000 grant from the Ministry of Energy Resources.
