As a cub business reporter, I recall the difficulties in arranging meetings across the vast expanse of Rotterdam port – in the days of fax, no less – and having to justify the large taxi fares when I got back to the London office.
While the technological tools have thankfully improved, negotiating Rotterdam remains one of life’s great logistical challenges, with its 70km of quaysides and 20 container depots, all serving a round-the-clock maritime operation which handles 28,000 ships – and 9,000 inland vessels – annually.
